KIND LIGHT

Kind Light eases the anxiety of finding open space when entering a crowded area. Instead of guiding people to invite newcomers into the space, the space itself works with KindLight technology to display where space is shared and welcomed for everyone.

Problem

How can an area encourage and guide people to open up and invite newcomers to join a space?  KindLight is meant to take place within a yoga or meditation studio. From my own personal experience I find it to be difficult or intrusive to ask people to open up space so I can lay down my yoga mat. If I'm one of the last people in the room, this can be especially difficult. During my first semester in Design and Technology and I decided to address this challenge in my final project. A quick video below shows a prototype video of how KindLight will work one day soon within yoga and workout studios in the future.

Initial Sketches

Paper Prototyping

One of my favorite ways of prototyping is by creating paper prototypes to work through user flows and initial round of ideas. I wanted to create an outline for a yoga mat that would illuminate on the floor. I only knew how to create this from projecting from above, but ideally I wanted to floor to illuminate the projection from the ground as if it rises from underneath the floor. I began by playing with shapes and user flows for how an instructor could set up the KindLight before class begins.
