Problem

Design Education Augmented Reality aims to provide design education to those that otherwise wouldn’t have access due to geographic or economic constraints. This design process is focused on utilizing Augmented Reality as an education tool to reach new audiences that otherwise wouldn’t have access to the design education provided by The New School Parsons School of Design program.

I was a Research Assistant for Parsons Professor Jeongki Lim who led the DEAR project and research for creating an education AR application. This project can also be viewed on the project website at dear.education

Prototypes

Prototype Ideas

  1. AR Education Design Tool: Create a shape within AR and then have the capability to adjust, mold, and manipulate the shape (stylus).

  2. Signifiers & Affordances: Create an educational interaction to inform the viewers on signifiers and affordances within different surrounding objects. Creating arrow signs for the object and how it changes the relationship for that product. Utilize AR Brush as example on how it stays in place from where the object was placed.

  3. Design of Future Business AR Game: Create an AR game for class to learn business workflow. Precedents include Sipm.com & The Beer Game.

User  Experience Research and Testing

We were able to test our first prototype at the Parsons Playtech event where the public is invited to try out gaming designers projects and designs. For the event myself and our newest addition to the team, Taeyeon Kim and Jeongki set up our area for user testing and brief survey at the end of each interaction. Below was our documentation.
